Using a different email or mobile

With no account there is nothing to update - and what to do about the address you are leaving behind.

There is no profile holding your email address, so there is no field to edit. Ask for a paper with a different address and the code and the link go there instead. That is the whole of the switch.

What that means in practice

  • Use the new address the next time you download. Nothing carries over and nothing needs to.
  • The mobile field is optional and no code is sent to it today, so leaving it blank changes nothing about what you receive.
  • Links already issued to the old address keep working until they expire. They were issued to a request, not to an identity.

The address you are leaving behind

This is the part worth reading. Switching does not delete the earlier one - a verified address is a stored row, and it stays a stored row until it is removed or its retention period ends. If you are changing address because you would rather we did not hold the first one, switching is not the action you want.

Erasure is a separate request and it is yours by right, not by favour. The privacy notice sets out what is held, on what basis, and how to have it deleted - including who to write to and what they must do about it.

If you are switching because the first one failed

A different address is a reasonable workaround for a code that will not arrive, but it is worth ruling out the ordinary causes first - spam folders and filtered work mail account for most of it. The code has not arrived is the checklist.
