Re-evaluation

Re-evaluation is a fresh look by the board at whole answers you choose, to check they were marked as the marking scheme says.

Re-evaluation - also called revaluation - is one of CBSE's checks after the result. The other is verification of marks, which checks that every answer was marked and the marks were added up correctly. Re-evaluation judges the chosen answers again against the marking scheme.

How it works in CBSE Class 10

  • It opens only after the second board exam's results. You first get the photocopy of the answer sheet.
  • You choose full questions, never part of one, and give a reason for each.
  • In 2026 the fee was Rs 100 per question, including all its parts.
  • Marks can go up, go down or stay the same. A drop of even one mark is applied, and the outcome is final.
  • It covers the written paper only, not the school marks.

A small example

Say Question 22 carries 3 marks, and your child got 1. The copy shows the working matches all three steps in the scheme. You choose the whole of Question 22 and write that reason. The board then marks that question again.

The rules are in CBSE's notice of 5 August 2026. Photocopy, verification and re-evaluation walks through each step, and whether re-evaluation is worth it helps you decide.

Re-evaluation in ICSE

Under CISCE's regulations for the 2028 exam, ICSE starts with a recheck of the totals. Re-evaluation must be asked for within three days of the recheck results. The fee is not refunded. The new marks, higher or lower, are final.
